’60-70 firms in my portfolio have closed down with no returns’ Anupam Mittal
Anupam Mittal, Founder and CEO of Shaadi.com, said that 60-70 of the firms in his portfolio had closed down with no profits. “My investments in these enterprises have resulted in a complete loss,” he claimed on Shark Tank India.

He said that it is impossible for every investment to be fruitful. “It’s not feasible to expect profits from every firm where you invest your money,” he continued. He said that, in retrospect, the 15-20 firms he has invested in have not only helped him recoup his losses (incurred from investing in businesses that have gone down), but have also provided him with far higher profits.
“This is known as the portfolio method to investment, and you cannot get obsessed with particular losses.” He claims he has gotten smarter in his investments, which allows him to sleep well at night.
Mittal, best known for founding the Indian marriage website Shaadi.com, is a well-known angel investor in the Indian start-up scene. He is well-known for his investments in notable start-ups and unicorns such as Ola Cabs, BigBasket, and drone unicorn Druva, among many more.
Anupam has invested in approximately 240 businesses. He invested Rs 5.4 crore in over 24 firms during Season 1 of Shark Tank India. Seventy percent of them are headed by young entrepreneurs, fifty percent by women-founded businesses, and thirty percent by families. Mittal has spent around Rs 2.92 crore in Season 2 up to the second week. Mittal’s net worth is estimated to be between $20 and $25 million, according to the Shark Tank website.
