23 lakh WhatsApp accounts banned in India
According to a WhatsApp spokesperson, the company banned more than 2.3 million accounts in the month of October.

Of these 2.3 million accounts, up to 811,000, according to another statement, were proactively banned before any user complaints.
In a statement, a WhatsApp spokesperson stated, “Among end-to-end encrypted messaging services, WhatsApp is the industry leader in preventing abuse.” To ensure the safety of our users on our platform, we have consistently made investments in data scientists, and experts, as well as in artificial intelligence.
According to the spokesperson, “We have published our report for the month of October 2022 in accordance with the IT Rules 2022. This user-safety report includes information about user complaints and the actions taken by WhatsApp, as well as WhatsApp’s own preventive measures to combat abuse on our platform.”
The spokesperson for WhatsApp reported that over 2.3 million accounts were blocked in the month of October, as noted in the most recent monthly report. According to a statement issued by the company, between September 1 and September 30 of this year, 2,685,000 WhatsApp accounts were banned. Before any user complaints, up to 872,000 of these accounts were proactively banned.
According to the company’s statement, WhatsApp used tools and resources to stop harmful behaviour on the platform in addition to responding to and acting upon user complaints through the grievance channel. The company said, ” We are especially focused on prevention because we think it is much preferable to prevent harmful activity from occurring in the first place than to discover it after harm has already been done.”
According to the statement, abuse detection occurs three times during an account’s lifetime: during account creation, while messaging, and in response to unfavourable comments, which we receive in the form of user reports and blocks. According to the statement, a team of analysts augments these systems to evaluate edge cases and help us improve our effectiveness over time.
