Why Aman Gupta of Shark Tank said that investors “missed the boat”
Aman Gupta, co-founder of boAt and hugely popular “shark” on the Indian version of the start-up reality show “Shark Tank,” is a firm believer in “hustle.”
Despite the fact that the phrase is frequently used negatively, Gupta asserts that he cannot collaborate with anyone who doesn’t “reciprocate” his level of energy and “drive”. Gupta revealed that early in the process of creating a D2C giant at boAt, one of the leading consumer electronics companies in India, he didn’t find many supporters.

Aman Gupta said, “Today I look at those investors and tell them—you missed the ‘boAt’.”
Fireside Ventures, a D2C-focused early-stage investor, contributed Rs 6 crore ($900,000) to boAt’s first significant round of investment in 2018. “Kanwal [Managing Partner at Fireside Kanwaljit Singh] invested in me and I delivered him respectable returns,” Gupta said.
In a statement at the time of investment, Singh had stated, “boAt is set to become an incredibly iconic brand. We search for companies that have discovered these “white spaces” and developed goods and solutions to address these target markets. That is exactly what the boAt is doing.”
BoAt is being supported by major investors including Warburg Pincus, Qualcomm Ventures, and InnoVen Capital. At the conclusion of FY22, the corporation claimed to have generated sales of Rs 3,000 crore, an increase of 100% over the previous year. Prior to abandoning the IPO last month, it too had plans to go public.
Aman gupta emphasized the significance of “hungry” entrepreneurs, emphasizing the concept he uses when deciding which startups to invest in on Shark Tank India: “Hustle is the first quality I look for in a founder, and it has worked for me.”
