Apple threatens to block Twitter from the App Store
Elon Musk, the new owner of Twitter, is criticising Apple’s App Store restrictions and tax rules. Twitter CEO Elon Musk accused Apple of removing Twitter from the App Store without explaining why, and he claimed that Apple had also ceased advertising on the social media platform. Musk claims that Apple was putting pressure on Twitter over content moderation requirements.

Following his tweets, several of Musk’s supporters and followers launched a campaign on Twitter in support of “free speech.”
Although it is unclear why Apple is supposedly threatening to “remove” Twitter from the App Store, tweets and Musk’s statements suggest that it may be related to the social media platform’s new moderation policy to protect “free speech.” Although Apple has yet to confirm these accusations.
This is not the first time the iPhone maker has threatened to remove a software from its App Store. For example, following the rioting at the US Capitol Building early last year, it pulled Parler, a Twitter rival, from its App Store. After Parler improved its content and moderation methods, the app was returned in May 2021. Lbry makes similar claims, claiming that Apple instructed the company to “limit some search phrases.” “Apple may make amazing products, but they have long been opposed to free expression,” the business stated.
It is also unclear why Apple discontinued advertising on the platform, despite Musk’s claim that the firm does not promote free speech. According to Reuters, Apple paid an estimated $131,600 on Twitter ads between November 10 and 16, down from $220,800 the week before Musk clinched the Twitter transaction. According to the research, Apple was the biggest advertiser on Twitter in the first quarter of 2022.
Musk is also upset that Apple and Google charge a 30% fee for in-app purchases. Twitter Blue will be available internationally for $8. That means the corporation would take a 30% cut for all subscribers. “Did you know Apple secretly taxes everything you buy through their App Store by 30%?” Musk asked.
