If your PAN card is inactive, it will remain only a piece of plastic, which means you will be unable to use it anywhere. The Income Tax Department recently tweeted about it as well.

The Income Tax Department noted in a tweet, “In accordance with the Income-tax Act of 1961, the deadline for connecting PAN with Aadhaar is March 31, 2023, for all PAN holders who are not exempt, failing which the unlinked PAN would become inactive.” Don’t wait; connect now!”

According to circular F. No. 370142/14/22-TPL issued by the CBDT on March 30, 2022, all individuals who were given a PAN as of July 1, 2017 and were eligible to get an Aadhaar number must connect their PAN with their Aadhaar by March 31, 2022. Linking is essential. Those who want not to connect their PAN and Aadhaar would be compelled to pay a Rs 500 fee. In addition, beginning on June 30, 2022, people who connect their Aadhaar card to a PAN must pay Rs 1000.

If you connect your Aadhaar card to your PAN card after receiving the Income Tax Department’s circular but before doing so, you will be charged a fee of Rs 1000. Furthermore, your PAN card will expire and lose all value if you don’t connect your Aadhaar and PAN by March 31, 2023.
